Is it right for you?

Will underfloor heating suit your project?

A good fit if

  • A renovation, extension or new build, where the floor is coming up or going down anyway
  • A home with a heat pump, or getting one. Underfloor heating suits low flow temperatures
  • Open-plan spaces and rooms where radiators get in the way
  • Underfloor heating in some rooms and radiators in others

Probably not the right fit if

  • You don't want floors lifted or raised. What's possible depends on the floors you have
  • You want quick bursts of heat in a room you rarely use. Underfloor heating suits steady, all-day warmth

Our aim is to help you make an informed decision, with realistic expectations.

Cost

What affects the cost of underfloor heating

How we price

Every situation is different, including distance and other factors, so we don't list prices.

Quotations follow a property assessment and technical survey.

What moves the price

  • The floor area. How much floor is heated, and how many rooms and circuits
  • Your floors. Screed, suspended timber or an existing floor to build on
  • The heat source. A heat pump or boiler, and how the system connects to it
  • Controls. One zone or a thermostat in each room

What's included

  • Technical surveys
  • Heating design
  • Equipment selection
  • Installation
  • Commissioning
  • System handover
  • Aftercare
  • Manufacturer warranties and any additional service arrangements, explained within the quotation

Case studies

HertfordshireExtended to 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms

The job
Two 25 kW boilers, 50 kW in total, and previous quotes suggesting another boiler to bring the capacity up to 65 kW. Our heat loss survey came to 24.5 kW.
The result
One 32 kW Vaillant ecoTEC plus, range rated down to 24.5 kW once the loft was insulated, with a 400 litre cylinder and underfloor heating in the extension. The client has since reported cost savings and the best hot water ever, despite having more bathrooms.

LondonA new build with a lower-ground floor

The job
A highly insulated envelope, substantial lower-ground construction and thermal mass, with a calculated design heat loss of approximately 4.2 kW.
The design
A Vaillant aroTHERM pro 5 kW, targeting approximately 35°C heating-water flow at winter design conditions, with predominantly open-loop underfloor heating and weather-compensated control. After commissioning, energy performance and room response will be measured.

Design intent and planned monitoring, not verified results.

Questions

Underfloor heating questions, answered

Does underfloor heating work with a heat pump?

Yes. Because it covers a large area, underfloor heating can heat a room with water at a lower temperature, which is exactly what a heat pump does best. See air source heat pumps.

Does it work with a gas boiler?

Yes. Underfloor heating can run from a gas boiler as well as a heat pump.

Can I have underfloor heating in some rooms and radiators in others?

Yes. Underfloor heating and radiators can work together on the same system.

Is it only for new builds?

No. We work on renovations, extensions and major refurbishments as well as new builds. What's possible depends on the floors you have, which is part of the property assessment and survey.
